GEO for B2B service firms: CA firms, consultancies and agencies.
Most GEO advice is written for e-commerce and SaaS. Service firms sell expertise, not products. The way AI assistants decide to recommend them is different, and so is the work.
A service firm's website usually says "we deliver excellence". An AI assistant can't recommend excellence. It can recommend "GST and ROC compliance for funded startups in Pune, from ₹X a month".
How assistants pick a service firm
When an assistant searches the web for "best X firm for Y", it reads what its searches return: firm websites, directory listings, comparison articles, reviews and news. It names firms whose pages clearly match the question and that others mention. Classic SEO gets you retrieved; clarity and third-party mentions get you named. See how AI engines choose sources.
Five things to fix
- One page per service, per audience. "Startup compliance", "transfer pricing for exporters" and "NRI taxation" are separate pages, each answering who it is for, what is included, timelines and price basis.
- Location, stated plainly. City, areas served, and whether you work remotely. Assistants answer "in [city]" questions literally.
- Proof on the page. Case studies with numbers, client types, credentials and named partners with profiles. Anonymised is fine; vague is not.
- Answer the questions buyers ask. Fees, process, documents needed, turnaround. Answer-first pages are what get quoted; see answer-first content.
- Get listed where assistants look. Professional bodies, industry directories, local business listings, "top firms" articles and podcasts in your niche. See brand mentions vs backlinks.
Local still matters
For "near me" and city queries, Google's local ranking uses relevance, distance and prominence, and reviews help prominence. A complete, verified Google Business Profile with replies to reviews feeds both Maps and AI answers. See local AI search in India.
Measure it
Build a 30-prompt panel of the questions your buyers ask ("best firm for X in Y", "how much does X cost in Y"), run it monthly in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot, and track whether you are named. See the tracker.
Questions people ask
How can a consultancy get recommended by ChatGPT?
Publish specific service pages (who, what, where, price basis), show proof with case studies and named people, answer buyer questions directly, and get listed in the directories and articles assistants cite.
Does GEO work for local service businesses?
Yes. Combine clear service pages with a complete Google Business Profile, reviews and local mentions, since assistants answer city-level questions literally.
Should service firms publish prices?
Publishing a price or price basis helps assistants answer cost questions and qualifies buyers. Even a range or a starting price is better than nothing.
