We built a portfolio of apps to more than 700,000 organic installs without spending a single dollar on ads. Not by luck, by reading the market correctly and treating distribution as a product discipline.
The temptation, once an app is built, is to buy installs. It is fast, it is measurable, and it feels like progress. But bought installs stop the day the budget does, and for an early product the budget is exactly what you do not have to burn. So we went the other way.
Everything started with reading the market: where was there real demand that existing apps were not serving well? Growth is far cheaper when you are filling a gap than when you are fighting for a crowded keyword. The right constraint, chosen early, does more for growth than any amount of later optimization.
Most of the compounding came from ASO done relentlessly: the exact keywords buyers searched, a store listing rewritten to rank and convert, and constant iteration as the charts moved. When discovery works, every new install makes the next one easier, ratings, ranking and momentum feed each other.
